Rétimajor

Rétimajor

We can find the only fishery museum in the country in the former mansion built by the noble Zichy family which is almost 100 years old and has been restored. In this wet-land fishing in the old times and today’s utilisation are closely related.

A distinct feature of the centre is that the fishing hut and the newly-built modern facilities fit well together. The Nádi (Reed) School, the fishing hut from Árpád’s era, the Fishery Museum and the characteristics of the neighbouring buildings all reflect this.

The other parts of the centre, the black-smith’s and cartwright’s workshop and also the water-tower have all been transformed into a catering establishment and even a small wine-cellar for tasting has been added. The outdoor part was also built with a nice little café with antique furniture for up to 30 people. There is also a guest-house built next to the road to Sárbogárd with a one-acre park, a separate pond and garden facilities.

In 2003 the 80-100-year old building at the centre of Rétimajor, that was formerly used as a granary, was reconstructed and turned into an Eco-tourism Visitors’ Centre and later the Nádi School and the exhibitory pond were created so that we can see together the fishing of old times and the techniques demanded by our modern age.

This area was classified as a nature reserve in 1994 and it is under the jurisdiction of the Duna-Ipoly National Park.
