Lamberg Castle, Mór

Lamberg Castle, Mór

We become familiar with the history of Mór through the permanent exhibitions of the late baroque style Lamberg Castle as well as with this wine region, the Swabians, the traditions of the Germans relocated here, Sándor Wekerle, Victor Vasarely and the life of Dr Ágoston Zimmermann.

Built by Jakab Fellner between 1762 and 1766 for Antal Lamberg it is a one-story baroque palace with a rich segmentation of mass on the façade. It has similar facades on the front and the back with median and side avant-corps and side facades also with avant-corps, mansard roof and striped façade ornamentation. It is decorated with wrought-iron window-baskets. The main and back façade has a centre-line with 1+3+3+1 segmentation while the side façade has a segmentation of 1+3+1. The former park is surrounded by a brick fence. On the side of the garden there are three farm-buildings with jerkinhead roof and baroque gable.

While we are in Mór we can also admire the Láncos (Chain) Castle dominating the characteristic of the main square. It received its name from the wrought-iron chain-fence which runs along the front. It is decorated with a two-arched, red marble framed driveway and a red marble balcony on three pairs of columns. It is the building of the Mayor’s Office.
