St. Emeric (Imre) Church
According to the oral tradition Prince Emeric was born in the palace standing in the vicinity of the church therefore in 1720 – at the beginning of the building of the church – St. Emeric, patron of the youth was chosen as its patron saint.
The Church was being built between 1720-43. Before the Turkish occupation the royal palace- St. Stephen's palace-had been standing on this place. In 1007 St. Emeric was born here. In the Middle Age and the New Age this church was the center of the St. Emeric cult.
