Memorial Park Pákozd – National Memorial Site
At the memorial site we can follow the history of the Hungarian national defence from its birth to the peace-keeping missions of the present time with the help of several interactive programmes. As well as various family activities we can also try out a jet-fighter simulator.
The purpose of the memorial park is to present the main events of the history of the Hungarian national defences formed in 1848 and to commemorate the 160 years of its heroic faithfulness. It is also to remember the Hungarian soldiers who have fought hard in every era and if needed given their lives. The 1848 memorial site and Memorial Museum remind us of the soldiers and home guards who fought heroically in the first victorious battle of the war of independence, the Don-bend Chapel commemorates soldiers who were killed in World War II, the Hungarian Peace Corps Memorial and peace corps exhibition represents the dedication of today’s soldiers. The memorial – depending on financial resources – is continuously being developed. The project reminding us of the battles of World War I and the Memorial of Heroes as well as the installation presenting a World War II trench was completed in 2008-2009.
