Town Hall
As early as 1698 the right wing of this building was recorded as being the town hall in the land registry. It holds one of three grand pieces by Vilmos Aba-Novák in the city. It gained its baroque front in 1712.
It is certain that it was used as a town hall in 1689. Its portal is formed by Corinthian columns and the allegorical statues of Prudence (virtue) and Justitia ( justice) and a stone balcony on which the town coat of arms can be found. Above the balcony door an eagle is sitting with outspread wings, holding a sword and a crown. The portal was made by Tamás Walch stonemason of Kismarton between 1717-18. The present building was born between 1935-38 based on the plan of Iván Kotsis. The Louis Seize style Zichy Palace was connected to this building by a hanging corridor. Since 2013 the visitors have been able to see the certified replica of the Holy Crown in the Town Hall.
