Bird Reserve, Dinnyés

The Marsh of Dinnyés was part of Lake Velence not so long ago and even today only a road and a rail-track separates it from the south-western part of the lake. Many birds find their ideal nesting and feeding area on its protected waters and reed.

During the migrations in the spring and mainly in the autumn great flocks of ducks and thousands of flocks of wild geese gather on the water. One of the most spectacular events is the autumn wild geese dash when twenty thousand or even more wild geese feeding on the fields next to the Marsh fly by to the more secure water of the Marsh to spend the night there. During this programme as well as the geese we can see 10-14 different types of ducks, 5-6 types of wild geese, the great egret, the grey heron, the white-tailed eagle and many other kinds of birds.
